The term CONWIP stands for “CONstant Work In Progress” and describes a KANBAN-based procurement concept that, like KANBAN, operates using a card system.
Brief description
The system behind CONWIP conforms just like KANBAN to the principle of pull. This means that orders are „pulled“ through production, in such a way that the next station or machine makes its demand with the help of a card from the station, the previous machine. This one delivers and at the same time, using the card, reports its demand to the previous one. This means that one card is used and passed on by more machines and stations. Inside the control circuit, the push principle appears, and between the individual circles the thrust principle. This is a hybrid model, i.e. mixed with thrust and push.
