The English term POD (proof of delivery) means proof of delivery of a shipment issued by the final customer.
Brief description
It is becoming increasingly important to track shipments without interruptions or gaps along the way. The last part in this information chain is generally: POD. Here, when the goods are delivered to the customer, a transport return document (confirmation, CMR, etc.) is signed by the consignee, thereby confirming the correct delivery of the shipment.
Currently, there's a growing trend towards electronic handling of PODs, where documents are scanned and can be made available online. On the other hand, delivery data can also be received directly via handheld devices and transmitted to Tracking & Tracing.
POD is especially important for the shipper, as confirmed, properly executed delivery is often a factor followed by payment.
