Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) is a further development of 3PL and describes the distribution of logistics achievements through a 3PL-Provider to further logistics service providers.
Brief description
In a 4PL, a neutral intermediary takes over the tasks of organizing logistics between the principal and various logistics service providers to win for the customer an optimal, complete package along the supply chain and logistics. The purpose of entrusting the tasks to a stranger is to tie up a favorable offer of total services. Fourth-Party-Logistic usually do not have flocks of their own Assets (vehicles, storage halls, equipment, etc.) but act more as service providers of creating logistics concepts as well as logistics planning and consulting.
