The term Break Bulk Agent comes from air transportation and refers to the agent on the receiving side who is responsible for distributing air bulk shipments.
Brief description
Break Bulk Agent is essentially a freight forwarder, which, however, in its purest form, is not concerned with acquiring new customers, but is a kind of agent. At the destination airport, he or she receives the bulk cargoes of his or her (worldwide) shipping partners, performs the physical as well as documentary breakdown of individual cargoes, takes care of appropriate customs clearance, as well as distribution to the end customer. In some regions, it is accepted that the Break Bulk Agent charges the customer an additional Break Bulk fee in addition to the effective costs for transshipment, airport fees, customs and final delivery.
