Intermodal transport describes the use of different transportation systems to organize a single transport.
Brief description
In intermodal transport, at least two modes of transport are used. The change of the means of transport by the goods always takes place in closed containers or units in such a way that the shipment cannot be split.
Different constraints (geography, cost, etc.), like customer and supplier requirements (speed, timeliness, reliability, etc.) require the use of different transportation systems. However, the advantages and disadvantages of transportation carriers must be considered in order to get the optimum.
