Commissioning time
Commissioning time is understood as the time of complete execution of the commissioning order.
Brief description
The process of picking, through the expectations specific to each company, is often very complicated and personnel-intensive, which also makes it necessary to spend a lot of time and incur significant costs. In order to work economically under such conditions, it is necessary to analyze picking time.
The picking process can be divided into the following phases:
- Basic time
The basic time includes the times for taking over the order, receiving information and possibly receiving vehicles and/or containers. It takes about 5 - 10% of commissioning time and can, through good work organization (stiffening the organization, trained personnel, optimal sharing), be reduced accordingly.
- Road time
Path time is the average time between two pick points multiplied by the number of pick points from an order. It is, with a share of about 30TP3T - 50% of picking time, the largest component and can be reduced by such measures as assortment cleansing, resource reduction, ordering by picking frequency and electronic path optimization.
- Time of undertaking
This time consists of activities such as reaching, picking up, transporting and putting away. It takes about 5 to 15% of picking time and depends on what height (bottom, top) the goods are at, as well as the form, size, weight of the article.
- Dead time
Dead time lies in the range of 10 - 35% of total picking time and consists of the positioning, searching, reading, switching and checking activities that are necessary to carry out a picking order. It can be reduced, for example, through information aids and good working conditions, trained personnel and the replacement of the picking list by receiptless picking.
