The ATA carnet (short for Admission Temporaire in French) is an international customs document, applicable within the ATA association.
Brief description
This special customs document is mainly used for the importation of tax-free goods. With the ATA carnet as a customs document, goods are transported to fairs, exhibitions, employee equipment, samples of goods, goods for cultural or scientific purposes or for sports events.
In principle, the goods are treated as such that cannot be consumed. The ATA carnet is valid for one year, during which time the goods must be back at the place of origin, thus the ATA carnet is closed. The ATA Carnet is issued by the Chamber of Commerce.
