Intrastat
Intrastat is an omnibus system for registering all actual material flows between individual member countries of the European Union. With this system, after the abolition of customs formalities for the transportation of goods within the EU, an observation platform was created for the registration of intra-Community trade.
Brief description
To achieve transparency in the space of free movement of goods that is the European Union, the Instrastat system has been installed. This provides each member country with an overview of the movement of its own country's goods within the European Union. Such statistics relating to trade between member countries are intended to collect up-to-date data on a country's intra-Community trade and present it in a multitude of compilations. This information is very important for country governments, economic and production associations, market research and observatory institutions and entrepreneurs so that analyses and forecasts can be made. Intrastat collects statistical information on the flow of goods directly from businesses. These, in turn, send a statistical report to the relevant unit of the member country, each month, which includes receipts and deliveries from or to European Union countries. In Austria, for example, this is Statistics Austria.
