The term ATLAS stands for the internal information system of the German Customs Service. With the help of this system, customs declarations and administrative acts are possible electronically.
Brief description
In the past, customs documents were prepared by customs agents and freight forwarders by hand. Nowadays, this is mostly done electronically. The data of the customs declaration are entered into a computer system and, via the network, transmitted to the relevant customs office. There, the data is checked and, if they match, the goods are released via a return declaration sent over the network. The Austrian equivalent of the Atlas system is the E-Zoll system. Such solutions help to carry out customs clearance and customs procedures easily, quickly and automatically.
