The concept of Code Sharing comes from air transportation and means that one and the same flight is sold by several airlines simultaneously as their own.
Brief description
Code Sharing is gaining more and more importance these days, as competition in international air transportation is getting tougher. Therefore, airlines are looking for strong partners to reduce costs and remain competitive. Code Sharing provides an opportunity here in that one airline provides the aircraft and one or more other airlines sell the flight. Especially for destinations where it doesn't make sense for more airlines to serve them, Code Sharing provides a reasonable alternative. Each airline's flight is made available under its own flight number making it impossible for the customer to recognize which airline is providing the „equipment.” With this treatment, no airline can feel discriminated against.
